Back in early 2021, I had been living with severe pain on and off for years. It just kept getting worse… and worse… and worse. The first specialist I saw after that gave me the worst energy—he flat-out said it was probably cancer, pulled out his phone mid-appointment to start scheduling surgery, and told me he’d have to cut me open to stick his hand inside and “feel around” for more tumors. Like… what?? 😳
So I got a second opinion. Then a third—from a specialist in colon surgery. When I first called that office, the nurse told me it’d be a 6-month wait… I broke down crying right there on the phone. I explained everything, faxed over my records, and within an hour, they called me back!! I had an appointment with the doctor on May 20th, and surgery was scheduled for May 26th 💕💖
It was laparoscopic, so I’ve got a few small scars on my tummy—but they mean more than just surgery. They’re part of a story I’m still trying to process. I came really close to dying, and that’s something I’m only now starting to sit with. This whole thing kicked off a self-love journey I didn’t even know I needed. And to be honest, it’s hard sometimes.
I’ve always had a bubbly personality—people see me smiling, making jokes, full of energy… but they don’t see when I’m hurting. And truth is, I don’t let them. Even during the time I was in the worst pain of my entire life, I was still smiling. I was still creating content, still running my businesses full-time, still helping raise a family. I kept showing up, even when my body was screaming. I’ve gotten so used to masking that even when I’m in pain—whether it was physical back then, emotional now, or the daily pain I still deal with in my body—I keep it to myself. I’ve been through a lot quietly, and it’s something I’m still working on.
Having a public platform means I can share these things, but that doesn’t always make it easier. Just ‘cause I post something doesn’t mean folks really see what’s going on behind it. But I’m trying.
